Event Photography Oakville: At Home in Bronte Muskoka Chair Project

On May 24th, 2024, I provided event photography services for the Bronte Business Improvement Area’s (Bronte BIA) At Home in Bronte Muskoka Chair Project in Oakville, Ontario. The event called upon both professional artists and local residents to design, assemble and paint Muskoka chairs for the Bronte Harbour community, which is a small neighbourhood in Oakville filled with sailboats, restaurants and harbourside walking trails.

After all of the artists completed their chairs, the Bronte BIA invited them to a drop-off event on May 24th right in Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park. The event featured a live musician, snacks, beverages and, of course, incredible views of the surrounding harbour and Lake Ontario. In total, 60 new Muskoka chairs were delivered to the harbour, adding to the original set of painted chairs that the neighbourhood received a few years ago.

As an event photographer, we are often faced with a number of different venues over the course of our careers. Photographing an event that was not only set in such a beautiful space, but also brought the community together through art was incredible to say the least. And I can honestly say that creating the Muskoka chairs was a lot of fun, as my partner, Lydia, and I created a Hawaii-themed chair for the harbour. If you’re ever in the area and looking for a peaceful place to stroll, grab a coffee at one of Bronte’s many cafes, head down to the harbour and take in all the colourful designs on the Muskoka chairs. It’s honestly like walking through a massive outdoor art gallery accompanied by the view of the lake, sounds of the seagulls and friendly neighbourhood vibe that Bronte has become known for.
