Best Hotels in Mallorca: Hotel Monsuau
When my fiance and I booked our (semi) last minute trip to Mallorca, our goal was to find a location with a number of beaches nearby and a hotel where we could post up for a week or so without feeling the need to move. On a lot of our trips, we tend to adventure around the places we visit quite a bit, which is of course great for sight seeing, however sometimes it’s nice to go on a vacation and actually, well, relax. That was our plan for Mallorca. Just relax. So, as we started searching for different areas within Mallorca that would meet our relaxation requirements, we stumbled on a little beach-side town called Cala D’or that seemed like it offered everything we needed.
Cala D’or is on the southeast side of Mallorca. The town has five different Calas, or coves, within walking distance of the town’s centre: Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Serena, Cala Gran and Cala Llonga. All of these calas feature crystal clear turquoise water, yellow sand beaches and sculpted cliff edges. Cala D’or is also within a short drive of Cala Llombards, arguably one of the best beaches in all of Mallorca.
So, after realizing Cala D’or would provide us with ample amounts of beaches to chill on, we decided that would be our base for our 9 day Mallorca relaxation adventure. When we book trips, though, we see the hotel as part of the experience. Sure, some people see a hotel as just a place to sleep while on vacation, and that’s fine. We, on the other hand, try to find places that integrate with the land and culture, and provide a place where we can enjoy what the country has to offer, even when we stay at our hotel. With Hotel Monsuau in Cala D’or, we found just that experience.
Hotel Monsuau is located on a quiet street and is about a ten minute walk from a number of great restaurants and shops. The hotel is made up of a few white stuccoed buildings, which really give it a contemporary European vibe. The property is filled with lush tropical plants and grasses, contains a large pool area with loungers and an outdoor restaurant / bar, and even includes a rooftop patio / bar where you can watch the sunset over the Mallorcan countryside while sipping your favourite cocktail. There is also an epic exterior stair case that climbs up the side of the building, providing panoramic views of the countryside while you ascend. The facility also offers nearby parking free of charge, which is clutch if you’re planning on doing any day trips while you’re there.
The hotel rooms themselves are clean, modern and spacious. They also come equipped with a large balcony so that you can sit back and relax after a long day of relaxing on one of the nearby beaches. The staff at the hotel were also very friendly, and provided high quality room service when needed. After staying at this hotel for 9 nights, we felt it was the perfect base for our Mallorcan relaxation trip.
The hotel’s breakfast offering in the morning was very good, offering a wide variety of Spanish and North American food options. They also provided outdoor seating beneath palm trees during breakfast, which was a really nice way to start the morning. Similarly, you could order lunch from the restaurant while sitting near the pool. We had a few of the various menu options for lunch, and enjoyed all of them. The rooftop patio does offer dinner on certain nights, however we walked into the town most evenings for dinner, so we didn’t have a chance to try it.
Speaking of which, there are a number of great restaurants within a ten minute walk of Hotel Monsuau. For really good Italian food, check out Restaurante Paparazzi. The pizza here is delicious! For a traditional tapas-style meal, head to Tapas y Mas. The sharing portions are very generous, and the food itself is incredible. We ended up here on more than one occasion! Lastly, check out Ice Dreams for some really nice gelato post-dinner. Do yourself a favour and get the coconut flavour. You’re welcome.
Conclusion
All-in-all, Hotel Monsuau provided an incredible base for our relaxing Mallorca trip. It’s white stucco modern exterior, coupled with its modern interior suites, provided a nice touch of European elegance for the 9 days we were there, and the food options at the hotel were delicious. The hotel’s proximity to a number of nearby Calas really made this place standout, however, as we were able to enjoy beach days without ever needing to step into our rental car and find parking. If you’re looking for a base for a relaxing trip to Mallorca, make sure you check out Hotel Monsuau!
